Helena Madden - MBACP (Dip)

As a qualified therapist, working in an integrative way, I draw upon various insights of different counselling therapies to aid in the counselling process. I am committed to providing therapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment, working at the pace of ‘you’ the client.

My work is with individuals and my aim is to be part of the therapeutic process to enable me to help my clients to help themselves and to offer the therapy that is best suited to them.

My experience of counselling has been through private practice and the voluntary sector. My areas of interest are Loss and Bereavement, Pet Loss and Bereavement, Miscarriage,  Effects of Abuse, Depression, Anxiety, Low Mood, Low Self-Esteem, Relationship Difficulties, Bullying and conflict, Feeling Lost, Work-related Stress etc.,

Before becoming a therapist, my work was within a Human Resources department for a large private sector organisation, providing various forms of support, ranging from managerial business issues to general employee workplace support. This experience has given me a good understanding of the challenges and pressures associated within the workplace and also the pressures for people trying to strike that ‘work/life’ balance.

Often within our everyday lives, we might feel we are going through bad times or experiencing difficulties. It’s not always possible, for one reason or another, for us to get support from family or friends. Therapy is not only for those who have suffered a mental health problem, but it’s very much for an individual’s general ‘wellbeing’.

I do understand that sometimes it’s very difficult to take that ‘first step’, and to seek support from a therapist. The first counselling session is an opportunity for us to meet and discuss your needs and explore what has brought you to counselling. You then decide whether you think counselling is right for you.

Counselling is not about giving advice; it’s about providing that caring and supportive environment to help you arrive at your own decisions.

This first session in no way commits you to further sessions.

Therapy sessions are usually for 50 minutes. I can offer evening and Saturday appointments.

I am a current member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy).
