Issues of Sexuality
Issues of sexuality
When we think about Issues over sexuality we are often talking about being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transsexual.
Sexuality issues are very much more out in the open these days than they were in the past.
Indeed the gay community in many towns throughout the UK have gay pride weeks. These involve a series of events often culminated with a procession through the town. They are well attended and well received.
Civil partnerships
If a gay or lesbian couple want to make a lifelong commitment to each other a couple can have a ceremony of civil partnership. A civil partnership is similar to a marriage it’s a legally binding contract between two people with the obvious difference that it is a contract between two people of the same sex.
When we are younger
During our early years and teens we sometimes have concerns or confusions that we are attracted to the same sex. In our teens our hormones are still settling down and these same sex attractions are quite common.
You may think you are gay or lesbian when you are young but it’s not always helpful to put a label on your sexuality until you truly identify with a particular sexual orientation.
Some people are attracted to members of their own sex on and off throughout their lives but don’t necessarily totally identify with that group.
Issues
If you do identify with your same sex group the issues that can cause concern is of coming out. Do you keep quite or come out to the world?
Not only can this be an issue when young but also it can arise in later life particularly if a person is married or in a heterosexual relationship and feel that they can no longer continue to live in such a way.
Coming out
Coming out can be a very difficult issue to deal with often leading to stress and anxiety. The fears of not be accepted by our loved ones or being rejected by the people we know play on our minds and can make us unhappy and depressed.
In this modern world issues around our sexuality can be numerous and written above are just a few of what people can encounter.
There are many organisation that offer help and advice in confidence these can be found on the internet.
Counselling
Counselling can of course be a good place to start as its empathetic non judgemental, confidential and works with the client at their own pace to bring about a positive outcomes to life’s issues.
