Frequently Asked Questions

Is counselling for everybody?
No not necessarily as we are all so different. It's your choice how you wish to live your life. Life is so diverse you may wish to seek a different pathway.

How long do I have to come?
There is no time limit; however clients are often seen for 6 to 8 weeks but more if required. Alternatively just a few sessions can be enough. Within counselling it is hoped that the client counselling relationship would progress leading to a safe and mutual ending. What is not wanted in counselling is a form of dependency or attachment from the client. The counsellor is always mindful of bringing the client to a position of independence.

Is everything I say to the counsellor confidential?
Yes within the contracting exceptions what you say in the counselling rooms stays in the room. Client's issues are discussed confidentially within supervision for safety and ethical reasons but names are never mentioned

If I met you in the street would you acknowledge me?
Only if you wanted me to. This would be discussed in the first session.

Can I bring somebody to sit in with me?
